Some Descendants thoughts and Evie doll review

'I have been changed for good'

from the musical Wicked by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, song: For Good
I'm very creative with my quotes, I know. They are just for fun. :)
So how did it all start? This was the first picture I saw of the Descendants dolls:

I thought first that Jane is Rapunzels daughter and she kind of reminds me even now of Rapunzel. Besides, she wears purple, like Rapunzel. She and Mal were my favourites of the group. I remember hoping that the tights are not just painted on. I liked Evie as well, but here eyebrows were bothering me. I mean, Mal is the daughter of a villain as well but she doesn't come with those evil eyebrows. I think I got used to them over time and Evie joined my collection.

Note: This is a review of an older doll but I thought some might be interested.

So Descendants 2 is coming closer and closer and I thought I could do a Descendants review to mark it :) I have only three dolls but I might add some more to the collection. I choose Evie for this review since she is at least a bit more rare than the other two. Mal got tons of reviews since she is the main character of the movies. Both Mal and Jane are the signature versions of the dolls, while Evie is the Disney Store exclusive. So let's get started with Evie.
Welcome to my wicked world
As far as I can tell she is one of the most popular characters, the Auradon kids seemed to get less attention, even as dolls. She got almost as many dolls as Mal. My Evie doll is a Disney Store exclusive version of the character, that means the Evie doll wearing this particular outfit could only be purchased at a physical store or ordered from the online store.  Since there are no stores where I live, I had to order her. She came out sometime around the first movie in 2015, I think, but I only got her around Christmas 2016. To tell the truth she was kind of a consolation doll. When I started to gather the stuff I wanted I did not intend to buy her. But by the time I finished adding things to my basket, most of the dolls I wanted (For example Mulan) were sold out. Then I saw her, she was still there and on sale. Following an impulse I added her and placed my order. I've seen her earlier in her coronation outfit in a big shopping center and I wasn't 100% sold on her look. Her eyebrows, as I already mentioned, make her look meaner than Mal and actually she is the kinder of the two girls, at least at the beginning.
That's the only picture I have of her boxed - sorry!
But this one made me smile when she arrived and she goes so well with my other two Descendants gals. I still have her box, though it 's a bit crooked.
It has a unique shape that was used for all Descendants dolls. The Villains children have thorns as decoration on their boxes, the others have roses and ribbons. (At least that's what Janes box is decorated with, Mals has the same thorns Evies box has.)
On the back we can see a picture of the actor as the character or the dolls inspired by Wicked World have pictures of the characters as they appear in those short episodes.
This is the best picture of Sofia Carson as Evie they used on the back of a box I've seen so far, her signature and coronation photos look somewhat off. Oh yes and there is a phrase matching the character next to the photo in a few languages and something that looks like a map of the world they live in. And we also get to see how her outfit looks in the movie. I think in the movie her hair was not as curly as in this picture.
Evie in the movie wearing the outfit the doll wears
There are a few changes, the doll has some red details that are black or gold or some other color  in the actual movie. Here is a full body picture of the outfit (and other two outfits, which also made it to doll form):
I just googled Evie Descendants to find this pic
Let's move to the front of the box. The dolls look like as if they were in a huge mirror. Evie has a blueish background, with her signature crown and her mothers shadow.
Can you spot the evil queen?
Her shoes did not come on her feet but displayed next to her. It took a while to get them on her feet, since I was careful and slow but once they were on they were on, no falling off or something like that. She can stand on her own but it is not easy to balance her. She wears this pretty blue dress that Evie wears in the movie for exaple during the match and after it, when she and Mal are talking about Audrey right after 'Did I mention'.
black underskirt and black tights
She has a black leather jacket, a black underskirt to keep the shape of her skirt, black tights and stylish boots.
The boots have her signature crown on them and her earrings are crown shaped as well.
She also comes with her necklace.
I never removed it and I even kept that tie on her so that necklace won't get lost. The doll has moulded on glowes but in the movie she doesn't wear any with this outfit.
Her hands are posed differently, allowing to pose her expressing many different things and I think the glowes go well with the rest of her outfit. Her black leather jacket is red on the inside.
I have had her for months but the belt simply won't change its position
The dress itself has no sleeves or anything to hold it but it stays on her very well, it has after all that tie that holds the necklace as well. The red stripe at the front is a little change on the original it is black. She has a red ropelike belt that is golden in the movie. I think these little changes were good ideas, those extra red details make her outfit stand out. The dress closes with velcro on the backside, the jacket is a separate piece but not that easy to get off.
However, the outfits limits her posability a bit. She has quite a few ponts of articulation: head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and knees. She has no ankle joints and the knee joint is quite limited because of the tights. She is not the only one with tights, many of those characters wear them as well.
Evie has lots of blue locks, just like in the movie.
Red and blue
She comes with her signature V shaped braids as well. I read that some other Evie dolls have crazy hair that is impossible to tame. Mine has perfect hair, soft and it does not get tangled but my Jane has quite stiff hair and it feels dry, not soft like Evies beautiful mane. I put it in a ponytail to make sure it stays that way.
Another look at her earring as well
She has quite a bit of hair. Pale skin and dark hair usually go well with each other and Evie does have a light skintone but Mal is even paler. In the pictures Evie looks paler than she really is because of the flash. She smiles with a slightly open mouth, and as far as I know the headmold was made especially for this character. She has subtle makeup and pretty brown eyes.
I like the way they painted the eyes and did the faces of these kids, they are more like cartoon versions of the characters but I think they are much more beautiful this way. Most dolls that imitate the look of a real person doesn't end up really pretty in my opinion. And this cartoonish style suits the setting the story and everything so well. I bet little girls like them more this way and I guess Hasbro thought the same. I think they are pretty and quite well made dolls, and they can be anything their owner wants them to be, everything from princesses to mischievous little witches. They can share clothes with the Disney princess dolls Hasbro makes, that is no surpise since they are both made by Hasbro. They can wear some Barbie clothes as well but you can find more info about that in this review of Signature Mal made by the Toybox Philosopher. She tried lots of clothes on Mal.
I'm planning to make them some new clothes as well and I made up a top pattern for them since I saw some really pretty dresses made for Descendants dolls. They come from an Etsy shop and they look really good, here is the link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Kosucas?ref=l2-shopheader-name&section_id=20530989
I would like to make my dolls something similar. :) Oh yes I call this lady I own Amanda.

I  liked the first movie but I try not to be overexcited for the second on, it usually ends with a disappointment when I'm waiting for something so impatiently. Well the dolls stay pretty, even if he movie is not that good.
